Title: Take the Lead

Horses in motion are captured in "Take the Lead", a pastel done on Wallis Sanded Pastel Paper, with a turpentine and pastel undertone. Using a wash to tone the paper allows me to save the "tooth" of the surface for more vivid colors of soft pastel. The hot pinks of the background allow the blues and yellows of the horse's bodies to stand out and add to the excitement of a running herd.
